Where P = Principal Loan Amount, R = Monthly Interest Rate (Annual Rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and N = Total Number of Monthly Instalments (Years × 12).
For example, if the annual interest rate is 8.5%, the monthly rate used in the formula is 8.5 ÷ 12 ÷ 100. The calculator then uses the loan amount and number of monthly instalments to estimate the EMI.
The EMI may remain the same for a given repayment schedule, but the amount allocated to interest and principal changes over time. In the earlier part of the loan, the interest component is generally higher. As the outstanding principal falls, the interest component reduces and a larger portion of the EMI goes toward principal repayment.

A longer tenure usually lowers the monthly EMI but increases the total interest paid because the loan remains outstanding for more months.
An eligible partial prepayment can reduce the outstanding principal. Depending on the lender and repayment option, this may reduce the tenure, EMI, or overall interest cost.
A lower EMI is not always the same as a lower total loan cost. A longer tenure can reduce the monthly payment but may increase the total interest. Consider the overall repayment cost when comparing loan options.
